DIO OF PRUSA In Athens on exile oration XIII Alfredo Verrengia CrisostomoPresentation by Italo Gallo. Italian Letters 2000. pages 184. MN651 DION OF PRUSA (c. 40 AD - c. 110 AD) is one of the most interesting intellectuals of the Greco-Roman period of Greek literature. Already in ancient times his eloquence earned him the nickname Chrysostom, "golden mouth". Of the eighty speeches that have come down to us, the first four, entitled "On Kingship", were particularly well-known in the Byzantine era, and they had a notable influence on subsequent political theories up to the Renaissance. The oration "In Athens, on exile" - presented here - is fundamental for the reconstruction of the orator's biography: its main argument is the exile to which Dion was condemned by the emperor Domitian. The theme of exile had already assumed significant philosophical implications for some time, particularly in the Cynic-Stoic sphere. Alfredo Verrengia, born in Salerno in 1967, a research doctor at the University of Salerno, a teacher of Latin and Greek in high schools, is already the author of two essays on the manuscript tradition of Dio, published in «Eikasmos. Quaderni Bolognesi di Filologia Classica» (1997) and «Studi Classici e Orientali» of the University of Pisa (1998). Bibliographic description Title: In Atene, sull'esilio: (or.
